Brief update:
The subject case was taken up before the Trial at Bar for the evidence of the 58th witness (witness no. 1297) and 59th witness (witness no:1274).
The 23rd accused was not present before the court, as he was admitted in the prison hospital again. The lawyer who represented the 23rd accused made an application regarding a bail petition. The State Counsel stated that they will inform their position next week. The court ordered Prison Superintendent to refer the accused to the JMO to report back to court whether the accused is physically fit enough to be present in court, whether the accused has to undergo a heart surgery, if so, the urgency of such surgery.
The witness No 1297 is a pastor of a sub church of Zion, who has met the bomber in the morning of Easter Sunday. Certain CCTV footages and photos were shown to the witness and were marked. The lawyers for the accused informed the court that they do not intend to cross-examine the witness.
The witness No 1274 is a shop owner at Maradana, from whom the CID has obtained CCTV footages of the bomber in Zion Church. The witness was showed few CCTV footages and he identified that those were given by him to the CID. Some of those CCTV footages were shown to the previous witness and he identified the bomber. The lawyers for the accused informed court that they do not wish to cross-examine the witness.
The witnesses Nos. 1279 and 2198 are already issued with summons to be present before court on the 13th and the court issued summons on the witness no. 2200 also to be present before court on the 13th. The court issued summons on witness nos. 1338, 1347, 1348 and 1349 to be present before court on the 14th.
Next dates: The case will be taken up on the 13th and 14th of March 2024 at 1.00 p.m for further trial.
