Brief update:
The subject case was taken up before the Trial at Bar for the evidence of witness No.2221,2222, 2223 & 2224. Witnesses No. 2222, 2223 & 2224 were present before the court while the witness No 2221 was absent.
23rd Accused also was not present before the court.
The lawyer appearing for the 13th accused made an application to continue the trial tomorrow without the 13th accused since he has to go for a medical checkup.
Witness No.2224 (75th witness) , who is a translator of the Ministry of Public Administration and who gave evidence yesterday continued to give evidence today. A few video recordings were shown to him which he had already translated and the witness read the translation he had done for each video. He translated the words written on the banner which is displayed in the background of all the videos. The prosecution wanted to lead evidence showing the banner to the witness. However, the banner could not be found. The evidence in chief was concluded reserving the right to summon the witness to mark any production or for translation purposes.
The counsel for the 2nd, 9th and 23rd accused cross examined the witness and the witness was not re-examined.
The court released witness No 2222 and 2223 and released witness no. 2221 temporarily.
The proceedings from 2024-2-8 3.45pm to 2024-2-13 3.30pm were corrected.
The court ordered the registrar of Magistrate court, Mount Lavinia to send the statements recorded under S. 127 of the Criminal Procedure Code in case no. B 917/19 tomorrow morning.
Further trial was fixed for 9th May 2024.
