Brief update:
The subject case was taken up before the Trial at Bar for the trial (Voir dire inquiry) of the 11th accused.
All the accused were present before the court today.
The 1st witness for the 11th accused ( father of the accused) and PW.1908 were present in court.
The lawyer for the 11th accused continued to re-examine the witness. He was re-examined on his duties performed in the Mosque after he came to know that his son was abducted by a group of people, his delay to make the complaint in the Human Rights Commission, whether he stated in his statement that he had a bad company and the relationship of the accused with his aunty who lives abroad.
The prosecution called PW. 1908, the Director, Terrorist Invesgation Division. He gave evidence as to his duties performed regarding the Easter attack investigation, especially regarding the 11th accused. He mentioned that the accused was arrested on 05-03-2020 and the TID functioned in the 2nd and 6th floors of Nawa Mahalekam building.
The witness was cross-examined as to his promotions and he stated that his promotions were obtained after a Fundamental rights application and got them backdated. He was suggested that he promised to release the accused if he gives statement in favor of the investigation, which the witness denied.
The witness was not re-examined.
The prosecution asked to obtain the copies of X3, X4, X7, X8 and X12.
The prosecution informed the court that PW 1908 will be called as a witness in the main criminal trial.
The persecution asked to issue summons to another witness tomorrow, Senanayake Mudiyanselage Gamini Premashantha and also informed that he also will be called as a witness in the main criminal matter and to add him in the list of witnesses as PW 2226.
Further trial was fixed for the 13th of June 2024.
