Brief update:
The subject case was taken up before the Trial at Bar for the evidence of PW 2048 and the witness was present in court.
All accused were present before the court.
PW2048, Mr. Saman Padmasiri Perera was an Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Counter Terrorism and Investigation Department (CTID)(now he is a retired Superintendent).
The Counsel for 3rd, 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st accused cross-examined the witness. A JMO report was marked as 11Z1.
The Counsel for the 1st, 10th, 15th, 22nd, 24th and 25th accused started to cross-examine the witness but not concluded.
The witness was advised to appear on the next trial date.
The Counsel for the 3rd, 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st accused informed court that he will not appear in this case in future and his clients need some time to find new lawyers to represent them. 12th accused asked for a assigned counsel for him.
Next dates: The case will be taken up on the 22nd of August 2024 – at 1 p.m for further trial.
