Brief update:
All accused were present before the court.
The case was taken up before the Trial at Bar to check whether the 3rd, 7th, 8th,11th 12th,18th,19th, 20th and 21st accused have retained new lawyers as, the Attorney at Law who appeared for them will not appear in the future .
When marking the appearances it was revealed that only 3,6,7,8,11,18,19,20 accused do not have attorneys at law to represent them in the court.
The judges asked each of them wether they need counsels from state expenses or whether they can retain counsels by themselves. All the accused who didn’t have counsels for today consented to retain counsels before the next date. Most of them asked for a reasonable time period to retain new counsels.
Besides that lawyer who appeared for 11th accused came before the Court and ask permission to hand over the documents of 11th accused including indictment because he is not intend to represent him in future. Court granted permission for that and ordered the registrar to take necessary steps with prison authority when the counsel return the documents.
The state counsel requested an order to bring productions and original case record of B 621/19 Baticcaloa MC to this Court as necessary for future proceedings. The permission was granted by the court.
