Brief update
All accused are present before court.
All accused were represented in court. PW 2052 was not present in court due to a heart surgery. PW 2053 was present before the court at the request of the prosecution, without summons being served on him.
The examination in chief of Witness No. 2051 commenced. He is an Assistant police superintendent who was previously assigned to the TID (Terrorist Investigation Division) at the time. He testified that the 11th accused requested from him that he wants to meet a higher officer in TID. He identified the 11th accused.
The lawyer for the 11th accused and lawyer for 12th and 13th accused cross examined the witness. A page in the Information Book of TID 6th floor was marked. There were questions asked in the re- examination as to the correct number of suspects who were detained on his duty day.
PW 2050 who was an officer in TID Control unit in 2019 also testified. He gave evidence as to taking the 11th accused to JMO at General hospital Colombo. The Medico Legal Examination form was marked as evidence. He identified the 11th accused.
The lawyer for the 11th accused cross examined the witness. No questions were asked for re -examination.
PW 2053 also testified today. He is an officer in the Terrorist Investigation Division. A Medico Legal Examination form was marked as evidence and he testified as to sending the 11th accused to a JMO. The witness identified the 11th accused. His evidence in chief was concluded. The defence asked for a further date for cross examination.
The court has scheduled to hear evidence from Witness no. 1509, Witness no. 1502, and Witness no. 2054 on 15 October, 2024.
