135th Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21

The case was taken up before the Trial-at-Bar with all accused present, except the 17th accused who had passed away and the 9th accused who is sitting for an exam today. The matter was called for the purpose of discussing the appointment of counsels for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 24th and 25th accused.
Mr. Nalinda Pramith AAL informed the court that a panel of lawyers will be appearing for the accused and will coordinate among themselves accordingly to serve the interests of the accused. The court appointed Mr. Nalinda only for the 4th accused with the consent of the accused.
The 5th accused informed court that he will appear in person until he retains a counsel, since his voir dire inquiry is over.
23rd accused informed the court that he is in the process of retaining a lawyer and if that fails, he is willing to get Mr. K. Amaranath P. Rajakaruna AAL as his assigned counsel.
The counsel who appeared for the 4th accused has handed over the documents to court. Further, CRP (remand prison) has brought 40 sets of documents and the Mahara prison has brought 89 sets of documents to court.
All the volumes of Sinhala and Tamil indictments were handed over to the 10th accused. Five Tamil volumes of the indictments were handed over to the 07th accused. 16 Tamil volumes of the indictments were handed over to the 16th accused. A CD containing the Sinhala indictment was handed over to the counsel for the 4th accused. The court ordered the prosecution to prepare CDs with Sinhala and Tamil indictments for all the accused.
The court further advised the remaining accused to take steps to retain counsels for them after contacting with their families.
The matter was fixed to be called again on 30th January 2026 at 10.00 a.m.
