136th Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21

The case was taken up before the Trial-at-Bar with all accused present, except the 17th accused who had passed away and the 9th accused who is sitting for an exam. The matter was called for the purpose of discussing the appointment of counsels and to hand over the copies of indictments to the accused.
The prosecution informed the court that they have prepared 22 CDs containing the soft copy of the indictment and they need further time of two weeks to prepared the CDs containing the Tamil indictments since two computers have damaged due a fire in the AGs Department. The CDs were given to 19 accused and directed them to hand over those to their counsels once retained or to their relatives. Further, court ordered the prison officers to keep the CDs in their safe custody until they are handed over to the relatives or counsels of the accused to maintain a record.
There were two lawyers who have come to court to have a consultation with 8th accused who are willing to retain them and the court allowed them to speak to the accused. The court, further directed the accused that they can seek the assistance of the Legal Aid Commission through the prison department, if they need.
The court handed over few other documents to accused which were brought by few of previous counsels and ordered the registrar to give the certified copies of the proceedings from 09-01-2026 to 27-01-2026.
The prison officers tendered the documents containing the opportunity provided by them to the accused to speak to their relatives in retaining counsels. The court intends to fix a date for trial on 02-02-2026 and a date after one week time will be fixed for the voir dire inquiry of the 4th accused.
The matter was fixed to be called again on 02nd February 2026 at 10.00 a.m.
