153rd Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21
Date: 10th March 2026|
Venue: Special Trial-at-Bar, Colombo 07
The case was taken up before the Trial-at-Bar with all accused present, except for the 17th accused and 18th accused.
P.W. 1980 Namal Bandara and the other witness were present before the court. The counsel Ms. Rashmi Weerasinghe, who had been appointed by the State on the previous day as the assigned counsel for the 7th, 19th, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th accused, informed the court that she has a conflict of interest in appearing on behalf of those accused and therefore is unable to continue representing them. She accordingly requested to be discharged from the case. The court accepted this request and released her from further appearing in the matter.
The Prosecution informed the court that the original case file of the Fort Magistrate’s Court bearing case number B 13101/19 had been filed in case number 78/21 pending before the Puttalam High Court. The Prosecution therefore requested that an order be issued directing the Registrar of the Puttalam High Court to send the original case file of the Fort Magistrate’s Court case number B 13101/19 to this court. The Prosecution further requested that the Registrar of the Gampola Magistrate’s Court be directed to send the case record relating to the case number B/432/2019 to this court. The court accordingly issued the requested orders.
During the proceedings, a medical report regarding the health condition of the 18th accused was received by court, which stated that he was not in a condition to be produced before the court today. The court took this matter into consideration. Accordingly, the officer who appeared on behalf of the Magazine Prison was directed to produce the 18th accused before this court on the following day only if he is in a suitable state of health and subject to medical recommendation.
The matter was fixed to be called again on the 11th March 2026 at 10.00 a.m. for further trial.
