155th Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21

Today the matter was taken up for the further voir dire inquiry of the 4th Accused. PW 1980, Police Sergeant No. 38640 Namal Bandara, appeared before the Honourable Court.
All Accused were present in court except the 17th accused who has passed away. All the Accused except 12th and 13th did not have legal representation and appeared in person. 12 and 13 accused were represented. Two senior police officers were present in court.
At the commencement of proceedings, the 4th accused raised concerns about the proceedings dated 2026.3.5 that some questions were omitted and the proceedings to be corrected. The matter was to be addressed later on.
The evidence in chief of PW 1980 commenced and the witness gave Evidence on the statements taken down stating that the 4th accused wanted to share some information with a superior officer.
During his Evidence several concerns were raised by the accused pertaining to the certified copies of the original police records, which had several typographical errors.
The Honourable presiding judge directed the CID to be mindful and to take steps regarding the many typographical mistakes that were pointed out by the accused.
The witness was cross examined by the 9th and 4th Accused and re examined thereafter.
The next witness called was PW 1547, Senior judicial Medical Officer who gave evidence on a JMO report produced by him when the 4th accused was presented for a check.
He was cross examined by the 4th, 9th and 3rd accused and thereafter briefly re examined.
The matter pertaining to the correction of proceedings will take place on the next date with the audio proceedings being played in court.
