195th Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21

Venue: Special Permanent Three-Judge High Court (Trial-at-Bar), 2nd Floor, MCC Building, Adhikarana Mawatha, Colombo 12.
Except the 17th accused who has passed away, rest of the accused were present before the court. The 18th, 12th and 13th accused were represented and the other accused appeared in person. Today the main trial continued and PW 1399 gave evidence.
PW 1399 is a resident in Hambantota who has given accommodation for the accused in four or five instances. He has a guest house which belong to his father-in-law and he has given the house for the accused when they have told him that they are coming on a trip. They have come through a broker called Jaleel and afterwords the 15th accused has contacted. The witness identified the 15th accused in court. He said he cannot remember the rest of the people who came with him. He has been in detention for three years and five days.
The 9th and 15th accused cross-examined the witness. He was asked whether he saw anything illegal happening in the place when the accused came and he said he didn’t see. The accused didn’t deny that they went to his guest house. The witness was not re-examined.
The counsel for the 18th accused objected to the application made by the prosecution yesterday to call PW 9 of the additional list of the voir dire inquiry; however, the court allowed the application. Further, TID has brought a statement made by the 18th accused this morning, which was not listed in this matter. After firm advice to the TID, the statement was also accepted in the interest of justice. The court issued summons to PW 9 of the additional list and also PW 1401 to be present before the court on 29-05-2026.
The 9th accused informed court that he has exams on few weekdays in June and Mr. Ravindu Yasas AAL will represent him in those days and that he has granted his permission to continue the trial in his absence.
The Government Translators’ Service has sent the Sinhala translation of M01, the statement of the 1st accused.
