Case No: HC (TAB) 2972/21

Court: Special Permanent Three-Judge High Court (Trial-at-Bar)

Venue: Special Permanent Three-Judge High Court (Trial-at-Bar), 2nd Floor, MCC Building, Adhikarana Mawatha, Colombo 12.

The case was called for hearing. Appearance was entered on behalf of all parties as previously recorded.

Pursuant to the request made by the 3rd Accused on 27 July 2026, two witnesses were called during the morning session for the purpose of cross-examination, namely Recovery Officer Niroshan Darshana Kollure and Government Analyst Officer D.G. Bandaranayaka.

Both witnesses were cross-examined exclusively by the 3rd Accused, Ahammadu Milhan, and were not cross-examined by any of the other accused persons. Upon the conclusion of the cross-examination, the learned State Counsel, Akila Dalpadathu, re-examined both witnesses.

Following the luncheon adjournment, the Court resumed proceedings at 1.50 p.m.

Three additional witnesses were called to testify. Their examination-in-chief was conducted by the learned State Counsel. They were subsequently cross-examined by Mr. Kaneel Maddumage, learned Counsel for the defence, and by the 9th Accused, who conducted his own defence. Upon the completion of the re-examination by the learned State Counsel, the evidence of all three witnesses was concluded.

The attendance of two witnesses scheduled to testify on that day was dispensed with in view of the admissions made by the defence regarding the duties performed by those witnesses. Thereafter, summons were issued to secure the attendance of the witnesses scheduled to appear during the following week.

The Court concluded its proceedings at approximately 6.00 p.m.

Next Date: 31st July 2026 for further trial
