Date : 19/10/2023
Case number : HCTAB 2972/21
Brief update : The subject case was taken up before the trial at bar to continue the evidence of the second witness of the prosecution. In addition to the second witness, two other witnesses were present in court. Today the cross examination of the second witness of the prosecution was concluded.
The witness was cross examined regarding his duty as a security officer in ensuring the safety of guests and his expertise with regard to the CCTV technology. The witness testified that in his knowledge, no any security alerts have been received by the hotel before the incident. Further, it was revealed that the hotel had an ERT( Emergency Response Team) for protection of guests in case of emergency. The spotlight of the cross examination was on the discrepancies of the dates and times shown on the top of the CCTV footages marked by the prosecution in green colour and the dates and times indicated at the bottom of the same video clips provided in a pen drive by the state to the lawyers appearing for the accused. The discrepancies were marked by the defence counsels along with the pen drive discrediting the credibility of the evidence presented by the prosecution.
Next date : The case will be taken up tomorrow (20/10/2023) at 2.00 p.m for the re-examination of the second witness by the prosecution.
