Brief update:
The subject case was taken up before the Trial at Bar for the further trial of the witness No.1919 (80th witness) and the evidence of witness No.2056 (81st witness).
13th and 23rd Accused were not present before the court. As a previous understanding existed with regards to the 13th and 23rd Accused’s medical condition the trial was to proceed without the 13th and 23rd accused being present.
Witness No.2056 is an officer of Terrorist Investigation Division. He gave evidence as to his duties he conducted regarding the 11th accused. He mentioned that he has performed his duties regarding the 11th accused on the 08-06-2024, 16-06-2024 and 25-06-2024 and have handed over the accused on those days to be produced before the court. The witness identified the 11th accused. The lawyer for the 11 accused cross examined the witness and the witness was not re-examined.
Witness No. 1919 is also an officer of Terrorist Investigation Division. He gave evidence as to his duties regarding the 11th accused on 16-6-2024 and 20-6-2024, where he handed over the accused to be present before the court. The witness identified the 11th accused. The witness was cross examined and was not re-examined.
The persecution informed the court that PW 2114 has been migrated and PW 1913 was retired and migrated as per the summons reports. Those reports were marked as admissions under s. 420 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The list of witnesses of the 11th accused was filed. The Human Rights Commission was added as a witness. The lawyer for the accused pleaded a further date for the evidence of the 11th accused. Summons were issued to the Witness no. 2 and 3 in the witness list of the 11th accused.
14th accused made a statement as to his health condition and the clinic he has to attend tomorrow. Court ordered the prison officials of Dumbara to provide him with necessary treatment.
Further trial was fixed for the 4th, 5th and 6th of June 2024.
Next date: The case will be taken up on 4th June 2024 at 1.00pm for further trial.
