175th Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21

Venue: Special Permanent Three-Judge High Court (Trial-at-Bar), 2nd Floor, MCC Building, Adhikarana Mawatha, Colombo 12.
At the commencement of the proceedings, the 13th accused was not produced before the Honorable Court, as he was produced before the Prison Medical Officer with the permission of the court obtained in the previous day. However, during the proceedings 13 accused was produced before the honorable court.
Thereafter, the prosecution requested permission to submit a detailed document regarding the deceased’s cause of death, the formal identification of the body and the post-mortem examinations conducted by the medical officers. The defense raised no objection to this submission, and it was accepted as an admission by the accused. The court granted leave for the prosecution to formally file this detailed document on 30th April 2026.
The prosecution subsequently moved to amend the names of witnesses of the Katuwapitiya blast in the record to rectify clerical errors made during the recording of prior testimony. These corrections were formally reflected in both the indictments and the list of witnesses.
Following these amendments, the charges were re-read to the accuseds, who entered a plea of not guilty. Thereafter. the court was adjourned and will be resumed on 27 th of April 2026 at 10. a.m. to commence the voir dire inquiry of the 9th accused.
