191st Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21
Date: 21st May 2026|
Venue: Special Permanent Three-Judge High Court (Trial-at-Bar), 2nd Floor, MCC Building, Adhikarana Mawatha, Colombo 12.
Except the 17th accused who has passed away, rest of the accused were present before the court. The 18th, 12th and 13th accused were represented and the other accused appeared in person. The voir dire inquiry of the 18th accused continued today and the prosecution led evidence. The PW 8 and 9 of the additional witness list were present before the court.
The PW 8 is a JMO who examined the 18th accused on 17-06-2021 while working in JMO office, Colombo. The MLR was marked as R4 and he was questioned with regard to R4 and P 108. He has mentioned in those document that the suspect was in good health physically and mentally. The witness was cross-examined by the counsel for the 18th accused and also by the 9th accused and was not re-examined.
The PW 9 is also a JMO who worked in JMO Office, Colombo and who examined the 18th accused on the same day. His MLR was marked as R5. The doctor’s copy of the MLEF was not brought to the court since it takes some time to obtain it from the authorities. He also has mentioned that the suspect was in good health when he examined him. The witness was cross examined by the counsel for the 18th accused and by the 9th accused and he was also re-examined.
The voir dire inquiry of the 18th accused was concluded and the court fixed 05-06-2026 for the written submissions.
The prosecution informed that they intend to commence the voir dire inquiry of the 12th accused today and handed over the relevant documents to the court and the counsel for the 12th accused. Since, the witness is not present today and not available tomorrow morning the case was fixed for further trial on tomorrow afternoon.
