208th Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21

Date: 16th June 2026|

Venue: Special Permanent Three-Judge High Court (Trial-at-Bar), 2nd Floor, MCC Building, Adhikarana Mawatha, Colombo 12.

The case was taken up before the Trial-at-Bar with all accused present, except the 17th accused, who had passed away.

PW 1030 Mohomed Sharif Mohommadu Musthakin, from the Kattankudy area, gave evidence-in-chief and testified that his younger brother is Mohomed Nias. He further stated that his wife has four siblings, namely Zaharan, Zeine, Rilvan, and Yaseera. During his evidence, PW 1030 identified the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 10th, 18th, 19th, and 20th accused and several CCTV footages were shown to PW 1030. He was neither cross-examined by any accused nor re-examined by the Prosecution.

The Prosecution informed Court that PW 1029, PW 1407, PW 1337, PW 1038, and PW 1039 could be temporarily released, and Court accordingly released those witnesses. Thereafter, PW 1336 Jayantha Danansuriya gave evidence-in-chief and testified that there was a residence called Sky Ray Property on the 6th, 9th, and 10th floors of 9/3 Residence, located at Mount Lavinia.

During the evidence of PW 1336, a document consisting of 57 pages was shown to the witness and marked as P 841, while another document was marked as P 842. Two video footages contained in a CD already marked as P 124(a) were also shown to the witness and marked as P 124(1) and P 124(2), PW 1336 was not cross-examined by any accused.

Thereafter, PW 1031 Aruna Priyantha gave evidence-in-chief. During his evidence, the Prosecution marked a document as P 843 and a CD as P 844. PW 1031 was not cross-examined by any accused nor re-examined by the Prosecution.

The Court ordered summons to be issued on PW 1411 Muththukumar Ponnambalan. Thereafter, the Prosecution made several corrections to the proceedings relating to the 18th accused’s voir dire inquiry. Court also directed both the Prosecution, and the 18th accused to file their written submissions on or before 6 July 2026.

The matter was fixed to be called again on 17th June 2026 at 10.00 a.m. for further trial.
