216th Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21

PW-835 – Subramaniam Shivakumar was called to give evidence. The witness stated that he is engaged in the business of supplying raw materials required for gold jewellery manufacturing. His business name is Sun Jewel Craft, situated at, Colombo.The witness stated that he had sold chemicals and other raw materials normally used for making gold jewellery, including ammonium chloride, borax, chlorax, nitric acid, and sulphuric acid. He explained that nitric acid was stored in a black-coloured container weighing 35KG, and sulphuric acid was stored in a white-coloured container weighing 35KG. He further stated that such acids are measured by weight (KG) rather than by litres.The witness identified the carbon copy of the bill bearing No. 1061, dated 1st March 2019, issued for supplying the said raw materials to a customer. The customer’s telephone number mentioned in the bill was stated as 0770817962. The said carbon copy of the bill was marked as P-903.The cover in which the said bill was kept was marked as P-902.

No cross-examination was conducted.

The next witness called was PW-840 – Periya Karupaiya. The witness stated that he was in charge of Bakshol Rest Inn and had worked at the said for approximately 20 years.The witness stated that when providing accommodation to customers, the practice is to check their identification documents and record their name and telephone number. The witness was shown three page document relating to Bakshol Rest Inn. He identified the said documents, and the document was marked as P-905. The cover in which the document was contained was marked as P-904. The witness referred to an entry on the second page of P-905, which was dated 1st March 2019 at 4.20 a.m. The said entry contained the arrival and departure details, with the departure time mentioned as 1st March 2019 at 8.00 a.m. The said entry was marked as P-905-A. The driving licence of the customer named Mohammed Jamsith, from Kattankudy, was marked as P-906.

During cross-examination, Adam Mahale, Junior Counsel of Mr. Kanil Madhumage, questioned the witness. A suggestion was made to the witness that Mohammed Jamsith had stayed at the said rest inn prior to 1st March 2019. The witness denied the suggestion.

The next witness called was PW-839 – Sinnaiyya Kardeepan. The witness stated that in 2019, he was employed at Negombo Mankuliya, Daluwakottuwa Ice Factory, and he gave evidence regarding the sale of ice. During examination-in-chief, the witness was shown P-819, which was a photograph of the 6th accused. The witness stated that he could not clearly remember the person shown in the photograph. A question was put to the witness as to whether the person shown in the photograph was the person to whom he had sold ice on a particular day. The witness stated that he could not remember.

The witness further stated that the person came in a lorry and was wearing a face mask. He stated that he did not have a clear recollection of the person now.

During cross-examination by the 9th accused, the witness was questioned regarding the identification of the photograph of the 6th accused. The witness was asked whether the document contained his signature, and he answered in the affirmative. The witness was further questioned whether he had stated during examination-in-chief that the person came wearing a mask. The witness answered “yes” and stated that although the person came wearing a mask, he removed the mask at the time of purchasing ice.

Cross-examination was concluded. No re-examination was conducted.

At the conclusion of proceedings, PW-1088 was summoned to appear on 30th June 2026. Further, PW-2036, PW-2038, and PW-2043 were summoned to appear on 1st July 2026.

The proceedings for the day were concluded, and the matter was fixed to resume on 30th June 2026 at 10.00 a.m. for further trial.
