170th Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21

The matter was taken up before the Trial-at-Bar. All accused were present, except the 17th accused, who had passed away. The 12th and 13th accused were represented by a counsel.
Prosecution Witnesses 400, 419, 412, 417, 429, 439, 414, 389, 421, 408 and 456 testified before the Court. These witnesses were surviving victims of the bomb attack that occurred at St. Sebastian’s Church during the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombings. Their testimonies were primarily related to the circumstances surrounding the attack, the injuries they sustained, and the loss of lives resulting from the incident. The evidence in chief of the witnesses were taken but no witnesses were cross examined.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, the Court informed that oral submissions on behalf of the 4th accused are scheduled to be taken up on 20 April 2026 at 10.00 a.m., and further informed that it had received a letter indicating that the 13th accused is to be produced at Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama on 16th April 2026.
The Court also informed that the recording of evidence-in-chief from witnesses appearing via Zoom from Katuwapitiya Town Hall will commence on 21st April 2026, and directed the Prosecution to file a Motion seeking summons for the witnesses expected to give evidence from that location on the said date.
The matter was refixed for trial on 20th April 2026 at 10.00 a.m. for oral submissions on behalf of the 4th accused.
