171st Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21
Date: 20th April 2026|
Venue: Special Permanent Three-Judge High Court (Trial-at-Bar), 2nd Floor, MCC Building, Adhikarana Mawatha, Colombo 12.
The matter was taken up before the Trial-at-Bar, with all accused present except for the 17th accused, who had passed away. The 12th and 13th accused were represented by the counsel.
The 5th and 9th accused tendered their handwritten written submissions in the Open Court. Then the 4th accused made oral submissions before the Court for a duration of three hours.
Accordingly, the Court informed that the oral submissions on behalf of the 4th accused in relation to his voir dire inquiry had concluded. The Court further directed that the written submissions on behalf of the 4th accused be submitted on or before 28th April 2026.
The Prosecution also tendered its written submissions in open Court on the same day and informed the court that a copy of the written submissions would be provided to the 4th accused on 28th April 2026.
The Court informed that the recording of evidence-in-chief from witnesses appearing via Zoom from Katuwapitiya Town Hall would commence on 21st April 2026. Accordingly, summons were issued to the Prosecution witnesses 439, 450, 461, 464–469, and 471, who are expected to give evidence from that location on the said date.
The Court further issued summons to the Prosecution witnesses 472–475, 477–484, 486–487, 489–490, 493, 494, 496–458, 503, 504, 385–387, 388–390, and 391, who are expected to give evidence from the same location on 22nd April 2026.
The matter was fixed to be called again on 21st April 2026 at 10.00 a.m. for further trial.
