173rd Day of the Main Easter Attack Trial – HC (TAB) 2972/21

Venue: Special Permanent Three-Judge High Court (Trial-at-Bar), 2nd Floor, MCC Building, Adhikarana Mawatha, Colombo 12.
The Prosecution Witnesses bearing numbers 479, 482, 489, 478, 387 and 474 gave evidence before the Honourable Court today and they were victims of the bomb last in Katuwapitiya Church. The evidence in chief of the witnesses were taken but no witnesses were cross-examined.
The witnesses were connected via a virtual platform (zoom) from Katuwapitiya Town Hall.
The 3rd accused was bitten by a cat this morning and the court was adjourned until he recieve immediate treatment. Further, the court ordered to give him vaccination within the course of the day.
All the accused informed the court that they are willing to make some admissions regarding the place of the incidents, the injuries and the deceased from the incidents. The counsel for the 12th and 13th accused was retained by them for the purpose of making the admissions. A draft of admissions was made by the prosecution and counsels for the accused and the aggrieved party. The rest of the witnesses for the day was released and the CID officers were directed not to issue summons for the 23rd and 24th witnesses.
The prosecution informed the court that they intend to commence the voir dire inquiry of the 9th accused next Monday.
Next Date: 23 April 2026 at 10.00 a.m. for further trial.
